When you think about elementary school you tend to envision playgrounds, making new friends, learning new things, and classrooms with cubbies (remember cubbies?!). You remember the fun stuff, because that’s what elementary school was, a lot of fun.
For tens of millions of children on the African continent, elementary school means so much more than the fun stuff. It’s a beacon of hope that provides opportunity and a better future for children who have been ravaged by decades of poverty and government mismanagement.
Thankfully, there are organizations like Develop Africa, that are committed to making a difference where it matters most.
Develop Africa’s mission…
Develop Africa’s mission is to facilitate and establish meaningful and sustainable development in Africa through capacity building, empowerment and transformational education. Develop Africa was born out of the belief that human resource development is the key to improving nation-building capacity in Africa.
Who they are helping…
Develop Africa is a global 501(c)3 non-profit organization that is sponsoring, contributing to, and/or working with charitable organizations in Sub-Saharan Africa. They seek to bridge the development deficit gap posed by the continent’s long years of mismanagement and rule. Develop Africa’s strategic mandate is to raise a new generation of African leaders by focusing on the human capital aspect of development.
Both Develop Africa and Student Loan Club envision an African continent fully developed in terms of its human and resource capacity, free from poverty; ignorance, and civil conflict, and where the poorest and most vulnerable people become “leaders” and effectively manage their national resources; and it all starts with advancing education.
Develop Africa’s efforts are currently focused, but not necessarily limited to- Cameroon, The Gambia, Kenya, Sierra Leone, Liberia, and Tanzania.
